Mariah's first baking lesson was in homemade bread. The purpose of starting with bread was to introduce her to the use of yeast and allow her to do something extremely hands on... so we made 2 different types of bread. A standard white bread and Amish bread. Both turned out great!
Then, a little over a week ago Mariah moved forward in her "Consumer Science" stuff to proper techniques and application of the "Creaming method". To demonstrate this, we worked on cookies. We decided to make Snickerdoodles, Chocolate Chip and Oatmeal. Mainly because this is what was in the house at the time. Next time we'll throw in Peanut butter cookies because those are her favorite.
I didn't get her doing the work because I couldn't find this camera, but I finally did and got a few shots... here we have the most important step in baking... keeping a clean work space!

Mariah with her 3 types of cookie dough. This was about 10 o'clock at night so we wrapped them up and saved them for baking the next day.

Mariah learned the steps to making a proper snickerdoodle and did a great job too. These are uncle Ry's favorite cookie and he gave them 2 thumbs up! The oatmeal cookies are in the front of the pic.
Finally presentation is important, so Mariah organized them and presented them for her grade. She got an A. It would have been an A+ but she learned the important lesson of making sure to set a timer for her chocolate chip cookies :-).
Up next is the muffin method and then after that the biscuit method.
Keep up the great work Mariah!
till later... Nic
